The Archaeology in Europe Weblog Project:The Archaeology in Europe Weblog is a regularly updated weblog that gives up to date news about European archaeology. As more and more news sources started to appear on the Internet, I became interested in searching these sources for archaeological news. The fact that more and more of these sources are providing RSS feeds has meant that much of this searching can be automated. By using a large number of keywords, articles likely to contain stories of archaeological interest can be pulled from the thousands of news items that appear on the Internet every day. The system is not foolproof, however, and a final human sorting is necessary. For example, the keyword “Celtic” will find archaeological articles, but it will also return a number of articles about football! It occurred to me that, if I was making this effort for my own interest, I might as well share the results with other interested people and so the Archaeology in Europe Weblog was born in December 2003. Since then the readership of the Weblog has been steadily increasing. In addition, the Archaeology in Europe Weblog RSS feed is read by a number of other archaeological news sources, so that the information reaches an even wider audience. You can reach the Weblog by clicking here, or by clicking on the tab at the top of this page. |
