David Beard first studied Old and Middle English and Old Norse language and literature before going on to study Archaeology at the Queens University, Belfast under Professor Martyn Jope, one of the great innovators of British Medieval Archaeology.
David has many years' experience of running archaeological study tours, both in Britain and on the Continent. He worked for many years as a field archaeologist for the Museum of London and was the director of the long-running excavations on the Cluniac Priory of Bermondsey.
David has taught medieval archaeology for the Continuing Education departments of the University of Oxford, the University of London and the University of Essex. He has also taught Anglo-Saxon studies for the London College of the University of Notre Dame.
He now works in Adult Education in Germany and is also the Director of Studies for the Oxford Experience Summer School.
